Replacement Pitcher Summary

To update a table from my previous blog entry, the Brewers are now 1-11 in games where one of their replacement pitchers started:

One quality start in 12 tries. Ouch!

Russ - If I looked it up correctly, Bad Chad played 9 (all losses) or those 12 games...Miller was 1 and 3 in the others (2-3 if you count tonights game with Jackson).

They both played in one of the losses.

Looks like the Crew is 6-15 overall in games when Moeller gets an AB. He may be what we have to deal with as a backup catcher, but I just don't see how it's not worth giving another guy a chance sometime soon....if not this year, I pray they have someone worth giving a shot next year.

You could make the argument that Moeller's lack of wins in games he played was due to him catching the scrubs we bring up for the 5th starter spot I guess. The fact that Damian was able to pull a couple victories has to be worth something....a 2-3 record in games Damian played with the 5th starters isn't too bad. (you can small sample size it of course, but we only have one season each year and I'm not willing to give Moeller a large sample size of his suckiness before I declare that Damian has had a positive effect on the games with inexperienced pitchers)

Is there a site that can sort the team ERA/hits allowed/HRs given up/etc depending on who was catching? I'd like to see the difference in runs given up based on who's calling the game behind the plate. Does ESPN have a filter like that?

another loss with 0-4 Moeller even though Villy tossed a good game. I really think it has as much to do with the catcher as it does the pitcher.

I don't really think so. Maybe in the Villanueva game it was a part of it (though Miller has been slumping, also), but when you're giving up 8+ every time, you're not going to win if Mickey Cochrane is catching.
