The Brewers and September

Sorry for the lack of posts the last couple of weeks but I went on vacation and the Brewers collapsed .I promise to get back on the horse soon. I certainly won't have to worry about being distracted by any Packer success.

I love the blog RLuzinski. What do you think has most caused the Brewers collapse? They've gotten absolutely nothing out of Kevin Mench since they acquired him. Francisco Cordero has been a gift from above as a closer, but the team appears to have no offense and a softball league bullpen.

For almost any team to have a prolonged losing streak, some bad luck has to be involved. That said, it's obvious that the lack of offense was a major contributer to the losing streak. Mench was terrible in the cleanup spot and the Brewers are getting little or no production from 3B, CF and C. Heck, even Hall is in a prolonged slump now.

The good news is that the bullpen can be rebuilt next year and there's still a lot of talent on the offense side. This isn't 2002, where the Brewers offense stunk with a bunch of mediocre talent with no upside. When you have young talent, you'll generally improve by doing nothing. Fielder, Weeks, Hall, Hart are all going to improve simply by getting more playing time. That could be the core of the Brewers lineup for the next few years and I think it's a good one.
